Philippians 2:3-4, NIV: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain
conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look
not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
The scripture tells us that Jesus knew what was in man (John 2:25). It is
that fact and within our own inadequate observations of mankind that we should fathom to
the point we are able, the unfathomable grace of God. We are a selfish lot. But by the
grace of God we are given a gift in that we, through knowing Him, may become like Him. And
in being like Him show evidence of His work in us as we turn our eyes more each day away
from our own concerns, and truly embrace in our hearts the concerns of others.
