1 Cor. 11:1, NIV: "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ."
Someone once said, "A good example is like a bell that calls many to church." Within the pressing issues of life, it is sometimes easy to forget our role as Godís church bells to the world. Financial concerns, relationship situations, personal desires, etc. can accumulate upon us to the point of dampening, or even silencing, the message our church bell might otherwise ring out. Hebrews 12:1 tells us to "throw off everything that hinders." While this may be easier said than done; it is necessary if we are to be the bells that call others to Christ. With Godís help, and a desire in our hearts to do so, we can, indeed, throw off everything that hinders. God wouldnít ask us to do this if it were impossible. For we know that "with God, all things are possible." As Christians, there is an example that we could be; and, there are examples that we can follow. The example of other Christians can help us better understand how to become good examples ourselves. But, be careful to remember that those Christian examples, as we ourselves, are still flawed human beings. Christ is our only perfect example. We cannot let the failings of other Christians, or even pastors, disillusion us. If our examples fall, we should remember they are human and do what we can to lift them up. In so doing, we all work together to clear the clutter from the bells so that Christ may ring through them more clearly.
