John 17:6, NIV: "I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word."
If a person's integrity can be measured by how well he/she keeps his/her word; then a Christian person's integrity can be measured by how well he/she keeps Godís Word. What does it mean to be a man of my word? It means that I keep my word. It means that the words I speak are dependable and trustworthy. Whatever I say I will do, I am diligent to do. My yes means yes, and my no means no. While being determined to be a man of my word is a good thing; being determined to be a man of Godís Word is far better. It means I keep His Word--I hold to His Word; living according to His standards; hiding His Word in my heart, and considering His Word something to be treasured. In keeping Godís Word, we hold to a standard higher than our own--an integrity higher than our own integrity. In keeping to His Word, we affirm that we belong to Him even as Christ said, ďÖthe ones you gave me from this world.Ē We affirm that His Word is in us. And we affirm that we are, and have always been, His.
