Does anything shock us anymore? Look around our world today, watch the news, read magazines, or watch television or movies, and you will likely be exposed to a great many things you probably would have been better off not being exposed to. In fact, so many of us have been overexposed to the point that we have become desensitized--we are virtually numb to the sexual content, violence, language, and worldly philosophy filling the media outlets each and every day. Not sure you agree? Try this exercise: take a break from the world’s media for one month. During that month, listen only to Christian music, read only your Bible and Christian material, and let what you set your eyes, mind, and heart on be only things that are centered on Christ, and Christian living. You may be surprised at the results. If the thought of giving up these things bothers you, ask yourself why that is. We cling to a great many things--many of which are contrary to the work of Christ in us. Are we ready to let go of those things, and fully embrace the things of God?
