Matthew 16:2-3, NIV: When evening comes, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,' and in the morning, 'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

We are surrounded by signs of the times. Yet, many of us neglect to heed those signs or even to notice them. It is as though we have fallen asleep, and are pleasantly dreaming, and refuse to wake up. Pursuit of personal happiness has trumped the pursuit of truth, and the pursuit of He who is the Truth. You have to wonder where we will all be when the storm that is evident in the signs, finally lands on our shores. Some may ask, “What storm?” and “What signs?” Some may be as the religious leaders of Jesus’ day who demanded a sign from God. But it is sinful to require God show us a sign fitting to our understanding, when He has already provided signs for any who will open his or her eyes to notice. So why do we refuse to open our eyes? Are we so accustomed to the darkness of worldly pursuits that it hurts to let a little Light in? The signs are there my friends. We can wake up, take notice, and submit to God’s instruction; or we can face the storm unprepared. The choice is ours.
