Luke 14:17-18, NIV: “At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ But they all alike began to make excuses…”

Sometimes it seems the biggest thing holding us back is us. We often know the road to take, the correct way to act or react, or the proper attitude to have, but find ourselves all too often retreating behind a wall of excuses. “I can’t,” do this or that because…”I don’t have the time, or the money, or the energy.” Or perhaps, “It’s not my gift, or my calling.” Or maybe it’s because, “They should ask someone better than me because I’m just not good enough.” We blaze a trail of excuses that takes us far and away from opportunities to serve, to give, to love, and to live life to the fullest in Christ. In Jesus, we have callings, dreams, desires, and aspirations. We see in ourselves the potential to become something more in Him. We know that all things are possible with Christ, and that He can help us overcome all obstacles. The question then to ask is, “What’s holding us back?”
