James 1:5-8; NIV:  If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.  But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

When we try to work and reason through things without the Lord, we are like the waves of the sea. But when we fix our eyes on Jesus, and trust Him, we find in Him the clarity we need.  Yet having clarity does not always mean having the answers.  As we seek Him, we may not find all matters to be settled, but we will find in Him what settles the heart and mind.  On the ocean of life, at times there will be no visible shoreline.  The skies will darken, and clear.  The waves will rise, and fall. But as we fix our eyes on Jesus, we will stand secure, steadfast, and stable in all our ways.  We need only trust Him, and lean not to our own understanding.
