Psalm 51:17, NIV:  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Wild horses are things of beauty to behold. But beautiful as they are, they transform to become so much more only after they have been broken. And they cannot serve us, until conditioned to do so. The same can be said for us. Left alone, we are wildly selfish creatures. If we are ever to transform to become beautiful, and fully devoted servants of God, we must first be broken. That very idea rubs hard against the selfish flesh within us. Our flesh desires never to be broken—only to be left alone to be a servant only to ourselves. But, unlike domesticated horses, we have some choice in the matter. We can choose to submit to the will of God, place ourselves under His authority, and yes, even be broken as necessary. And in so doing, we will discover glories we could never reach on our own.
