Fill, Rule, and Subdue

by Randy Chambers, 2015-12-22

Genesis 1:28, NIV:  God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

Adam and Eve were commanded to fill the earth. We are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit. They were commanded to subdue and rule over the earth. We are told we must learn to subdue and rule over our flesh. Consider this, that even as the earth has been filled physically, we are to be filled spiritually with God. Everywhere we look on the earth it is teaming with life. Life that God brought. Life that God commanded to go forth and multiply. The Spark of life within each of us that began when we came to God through Christ, was never meant to remain a spark, even as Adam and Eve were never meant to remain the only two human beings on the face of the planet. The Spark that Christ began in us is to spread so that everywhere within us that someone else might look, is filled with the Life that God has brought forth. Our design is much like that of the earth, and our glory is to be filled.
