Psalm 18:2, NIV: The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Over two hundred times, the phrase, “the Lord is” occurs in the Bible. A little over fifty of those occurrences can be found in the book of Psalms. Within these words, and the ones that follow, we can most assuredly find encouragement. Is there someone seeking to harm you? “The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble” (Ps, 9:9). Are you concerned that your needs be met? “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want” (Ps. 23:1). Do you feel depressed or discouraged? “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Ps. 34:18). No matter what may come today, or what tomorrow may hold, “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me” (Ps. 54:4). Rest assured that no matter where you find yourself, you can take comfort knowing--the Lord is.
