The Lamp of the Body

Matthew 6:22-23, NIV: The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes
are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your
whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness,
how great is that darkness!
Look into their eyes. What do you see? Hard times? Difficulties? Defeat? Do you
see happiness, or hope, or joy? Look into the eyes of many Christians, and you
might see a lot of the same things you see in the eyes of non-Christians. There
is often a distinct desire in the heart of believers to be lights in the world.
But is that desire hidden beneath the proverbial bushel, characterized by sin,
worries, and worldly pursuits? If the light within us is hidden behind the cares
of this life, then how will others see within our eyes the Light of Christ in
us? “You are the light of the world,” Jesus said, “so let your light shine…” It
may very well be the light of Christ in us-- seen in our eyes--that draws a lost soul to
Jesus. When others look into your eyes…what do they see?
