Philippians 3:8, NIV:  What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

“There’s within my heart a melody,” the old hymn echoes in my mind.  “Jesus whispers sweet and low.”  I pause to consider the words.  I wonder how often throughout each day I hear the melodious sound of Christ’s voice above the ruckus of daily life.  So often, the cares of life press in, silencing the song in my heart.  Somehow, all the daily things seem so very important.  And I wonder if I’ve lost the fight to keep my heart in harmony with His.  There is so very much in this life we attempt to lay hold of--to control--to retain.  Yet it is all fading.  But to each of us, within each day, we have been given a most wondrous gift; that gift is that we can hold the song of God in our heart as we go.  If only we will allow the things of this life, the cares, the desires, the possibilities, and all such things to diminish, in comparison to the awesome, tremendous, glorious gift of knowing Christ our Lord.
