Colossians 3:1-3, NIV: Since, then, you have been raised with
Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right
hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you
died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
What does it mean to seek God in all things? How do we go about seeking Him in
our work, our family life, and all others areas of our lives? Though well
intentioned, perhaps we so often place the emphasis in the wrong place. We focus
on our lives and the components thereof: careers, relationships, church, and we
begin to look for God in them. Or perhaps we try to find ways to include God in
them. But our goal is not to be fulfilled in the different areas of our lives by
God, but by God, to be fulfilled in Christ in our lives. Instead of asking, “How
can I seek God in the areas of my life?” the question should end at, “How can I
seek God?” We seek God and He comes into each and every area of our lives and
works to accomplish His good and perfect will. As a result, who Christ is in me
permeates all that I am, so that He becomes evident, in all that I do.
