Psalm 27:1, NIV: The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?

When my wife was in Iraq, her station was with attack aircraft positioned at the center of a base. Fighting was ensuing all around--outside the perimeter--in the thick of the darkness. She could hear mortar and gun fire. She could see tracer rounds filling the sky. And though her surroundings brought to her some trepidation; she took comfort that between her and the enemy stood hundreds of U. S. soldiers, helicopters and armored units--alert, and ready. Consider now the truth that a terrible enemy surrounds you. The powers of darkness surround you. Yet between you and they, there is He who is called “light and salvation.” There is He who is the “Stronghold” of your life. Though battles rage around you, though tragedies ensue, God is there...alert, and ready. He is mightier than any foe, and more capable than the largest army. As you lie sleeping in the center of His fortress, you can confidently proclaim, “of whom shall I be afraid?”
