2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a
new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Sixteen years ago today, I committed my life to Jesus and invited Him into my
life to be my Savior, and my Lord. That day is still vivid in my memory. I
prayed, I wept, and I truly understood what it meant to have the feeling of a
giant weight being lifted off of me. I cannot fully understand what took place
at that moment. All I know is that I had changed, and my life since that time
has not been the same. I remember the words I spoke to my wife, “It doesn’t
matter anymore.” I was talking about the things that had been bothering me. I
had found peace where before I was anxious. My whole attitude changed. But it
was not because I willed it so, turned over a new leaf, or put my best foot
forward. It was because I surrendered to Christ, and in that moment, He turned
over a new leaf for me. The man I was, was no longer. The man I became, was by
becoming His. I was, indeed, a new creature. Once guided by the thoughts of my
mind and whims of my flesh, but now—now guided by the Spirit of the living God.
