2 Peter 1:4, NIV: Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

God provides us many things: food, shelter, clothing, jobs, etc. Yet, He is the God of provision of so much more. In times of sorrow, He provides comfort—in times of sickness, healing. In times of confusion, He provides direction. And in times of temptation, He provides us a way of escape. Consider a fire escape on a building, or an escape hatch on an airplane. In the worst of situations, these may be the things by which your very life is saved. Temptation can surround you like the walls of flames in a building being quickly consumed by fire. But Paul reminds us that, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it” (1 Cor. 10:13). Today you may face great temptation—temptation the likes of which you may feel you cannot overcome. But before the day begins, remember to thank God that His provision reaches all your needs, and that it extends even to the way of escape.
