Rewards and Punishments

Mark 10:16, NIV: And he took the children in his arms, put his
hands on them and blessed them.
The question is often asked, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” But
where are they that ask, “Why do good things happen to good people?” It would
seem that many of us view life, at times, like a series of rewards and
punishments. If we are good, then God should bless us by making life easier, or
by filling our lives with things we want. If bad things happen, then we may
begin to wonder what we have done wrong to be punished so. If we believe that
good should come only to those who are good, then what about grace? Is God’s
grace extended to us because we deserve it? If we are children of God, we are
always blessed. We are blessed because God has our best interest at heart. As a
Good Father, God allows the good and the bad both in our lives to help us to
grow to be strong in our faith. And because of His love for us, He often gives
good things to us, not because we deserve it, but simply because He loves us.
