Preparing for the Storms

Job 1:20-22, NAS: Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his
head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, "Naked I came from my
mother's womb, and naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has
taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD." Through all this Job did not sin
nor did he blame God.
Job was a man who was “blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from
evil” (Job 1:1). Yet Job suffered severe loss and pain. Because of Job’s
standing with God, he was able to withstand the most difficult of times. We do
not know what tomorrow holds, so we must prepare today. Yet we do not prepare in
hasty panic, as though worried what tomorrow will bring. Instead, we must
prepare each day by walking with God—learning how to be “blameless, upright,
fearing God and turning away from evil.” Our greatest preparation to stand the
storms of life is in the time we sit at the feet of Christ. “Lord, give us this
day our daily bread.” Our need is to be filled daily with the Bread of Heaven,
so that we may abide in Him, and He in us. Then to, we may find within our most
difficult times, the heart to say, “The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
