You Are Forgiven

1 John 1:9, NIV: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
The power of forgiveness in an awesome thing. It is the device that tares down
the barriers that stand between people and people, and between people and God.
Where forgiveness is provided, there is no fear of retaliation. There is no
concern that the one who truly forgives will exact revenge at a later date--at
"the perfect moment." There is no anxiety or tension any longer, as two who were
at odds come together, having reconciled and renewed fellowship. The Lord
assures us over and over, that He has established forgiveness for us. Therefore,
we have nothing to fear in seeking Him, for in seeking Him we shall find Him
(Dt.4:29). Through the work of Christ (nothing of ourselves), we are able to
approach God and embrace Him fully. There is no reason for apprehensiveness on
our part, as the work of reconciliation has already been fulfilled.
