Built Together

Ephesians 2:19-22, NIV: Consequently, you are no longer foreigners
and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on
the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief
cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy
temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in
which God lives by his Spirit.
Perhaps it is part of a new and growing Christians nature to seek to find place and
purpose for ones self in the Kingdom of God. After all, it is true that we are all
called to a personal relationship with God and individually giftedfashioned
specially by God for a unique purpose. But Gods unique shaping of His children does
not end there. For what good is a relationship if it does not transform, and what use is a
gift if it is not used? What God does in and through us is glorious, but greatly
transcends who we become as an individual. His relationship to us shapes to our place in
his household. His spiritual gifts equip us to function within the body of Christ in a way
that is purposeful and beneficial to the whole body. As we grow in Christ, we will
discover wonderful treasures as individuals. But greater still will be our joy when we
begin to see ourselves, not as individuals, but simply as part of a greater whole.
