You Are The Light of the World
by Randy Chambers, 2004-12-27
Mathew 5:14-16, NIV: You are the light of the world. A city
on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same
way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your
Father in heaven.
Who would light a lamp only to cover it to conceal the light? No one--right? At least,
not intentionally. But what if the light that is in us becomes hidden from view? Is this
something we would do intentionally? We certainly hope that we don't. More often, the
light of Christ within us is concealed from view by more subtle means. Eyes that are
focused on the things of this life can be clouded by those things. Eyes that are filled
with worry will reflect those worries--making it very difficult for the Light to shine
through. As the New Year approaches, may we consider how we can live so as to let the
light shine through.
